About

I’m Samuel Finch, a PhD Candidate from the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry (HPI) at the University of Queensland, looking at Germans, diaspora, mobility, & the long 19th century.

My thesis addresses the formation of German communities in South Australia between 1838 and 1914 – focussing on associational cultures, patterns of public discourse, and electoral behaviour.

I blog about my research, and the prosaic, sometimes odd experiences of a postgrad.
